Ephesians 3:17-21 | A Life-long Discovery

If you were to ask a person to describe who God is, what do you think they would say? “Well, God is all-knowing, very powerful and you do not want to be on his bad side.” Or perhaps the answer would be, “God –if there is one—is a distant creator from his creation. Creator of all yes; but removed from his work.”
Paul’s prayer for the young Christians of Ephesus is for them to discover God’s awe-inspiring love. And, as they encounter this love, which is beyond reason, beyond understanding, they discover the heart of what it means to be Christian in this world.
This life-long quest of discovering is what Paul is so passionately advocating: Go, explore the depths of his love! Go, learn just how wide his love extends! Go, find out just how deep love is willing to go!
Often, when we describe who God is, we list off facts rather than his character. While the facts may be true, God is far more than an intellectual explanation. And our right perspective of God will re-shape our expectation of what we believe he can do.
Think of your life and what you believe God may accomplish through you. Now read Ephesians 3:20 and realize that your loving Father in heaven is able to double, triple, what you could have ever imagined for yourself.
“And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen.” Ephesians 3:17-21
