“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”
Colossians 2:7
A few weeks ago, I was going through some old pictures with some new friends over dinner. We were on Facebook and showed each other pictures from high school and college. Needless to say, we were all very embarrassed by some of our pictures. Old haircuts and fashion that we thought were cool made us cringe. Some of us had lost weight or started going to the gym and looked better. Looking back to who we were brought laughs because we had changed and grown so much. When we walk with Jesus, we can also look back and see how much we’ve changed because of our relationship with him. Maybe things we use to struggle with no longer have a stronghold of us. Maybe we have more vision of our lives and a deeper sense of purpose that before. Maybe, our trust in God has become more robust because of the seasons with him. As our roots become deeper in Christ, our strength become more anchored in him. It can be easy to become discouraged when we compare our lives to other people, even other believers. We can have different voices in our heads that tell us where we “should be” by now. But know that if you're in Christ, you're growing even if you don’t feel like you are. And one day, you’ll look back and see how much you too have changed because of Jesus.
Encouragement for the day: Take some time and reflect with the Holy Spirit how far you’ve come. And ask him how to start in the areas that you're ready to change.
