It's a Timing Thing

He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Philippians 1:6

La Sagrada Familia, located in Barcelona, Spain, is one of the most iconic structures in the world, and its construction process is just as unique as the basilica itself.

Construction began in 1882 and soon after in 1926 the main architect Antoni Gaudí died when only 15-25% of the building was finished. Since then, a variety of architects have taken on the project and in 2015, it was estimated to be at only 70% completion. The projected end date for this building is 2041...and if that is reached, it will have taken a magnificent 159 years to build this monumental structure!

Somethings take years, even decades to build. However, most of us want things done the opposite way: fast and efficient. Often, we’ll get frustrated when things don’t happen that way. From career to even spiritual growth we want to be “there” now. But real growth that lasts is hardly ever achieved fast, but deliberately and slowly over many, many seasons.

You and I are the monuments that God is creating and like a master architect, he takes time into account when building our lives. Time can help us heal and move on or help us prepare to take on a new challenge. God is not in a hurry but is patient so that every good thing that he started in us will flourish at the exact time, whether that is now, in a year, or decades from today.

If things are not where you want them to be, that’s okay! Be patient with yourself. God is still working it out. Allow God’s stillness to soothe your heart (Ps 46:10). Catch your breathe and trust that he will complete what he started in your life at just the right time.

Father, thank you that I can trust you when things make sense and when they don't. Help me understand that your way is higher and help me see the bigger picture that you are accomplishing with my life today.  Amen.
