"Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."
Phil. 3:13-14
We currently have 6 months left in 2019.
If you’re like us, there are many things you want to achieve in life. From fitness goals to how we want to perform at work, oftentimes the goals and aspirations can be overwhelming and we end up not achieving anything. Or maybe, some of us are on the other end of the spectrum: we haven’t stopped to ask ourselves what we truly want. What am I aiming for? What am I perfectly positioned to achieve in this season? What matters most to me?
There is much we can learn from Paul and his words in Phil. 3:13-14. Paul had a reason to live purposefully and not be a spectator. His deepest belief was to spread the news of Jesus to all people he encountered across ancient Rome. It was a big vision! It would require everything of him. But even in the largeness of his pursuit, he did this by making it small – going from town to town, city to city. He understood that going big meant going small.
As you consider the remaining six months and what you will aim for in the areas of health, family, work, finances, marriage, etc, consider this:
•List all your priorities.
•Arrange these priorities from most important to least important.
•Then draw a line through everything except your top priority.
•Congratulations! You now have ONE goal you can focus on.
Share what you came up with with another person –make it audible and visible. Pray about it and go for it. Make the rest of the year the best of the year. In the words of Ps. Brian Houston, "You get what you go for."
