“But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart”.
1 Samuel 16:7
Outward appearances can be deceiving. We may have seasons where everything we touch turns into gold! Or we may have season where we feel like a bull in a china shop: no matter what we do, we break something. It doesn’t help that our world adores the outward status. The pursuit of a career title or the next trophy is a strong motivator. For others, it’s about appearance and protecting a reputation we’ve created. In God’s culture, he is more interested in building the inner man than the outer man. His formula of transformation is simple: from the inside out. Building character and inner strength is how God develops a man for the long roads of life. When we decided to trust Him through the confusion or obey Him in the overflow, our hearts change and we grow. Don’t disqualify yourself by what you do or don’t have. Instead use your season as a character-training ground like David did. Choose today to build what’s on the inside and what's on the outside will take care of itself. Prayer: Father, help me build the inner man. Open my eyes to see You and how I can walk towards You. Help me not fix my eyes on what this world can offer me. I want to trust You from the inside out. Amen.
