The Spirit Man

For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption. And by him we cry “Abba, Father”. Now if we are his children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory."

Romans 8:15-17

An old Cherokee man is teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, regret, arrogance, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.” He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, humility, kindness, empathy, generosity, and compassion. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.” The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: “Which wolf will win?” The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”  There is a fight in us every day between the flesh man and the spirit man. True, if we are in Christ, we are no longer slaves to the power of sin. However, we can choose to be under its bondage. We can choose to carry offense, carry bitterness, or whatever is poisoning us.  The Holy Spirit wants something different for us. He wants us to walk in freedom and fulfillment. For our steps to be lighter. For our heads to be higher. There is a Spirit man inside us that desires God and desires to live the big-spirited life he has planned for us.  What will it take for you today to walk different? To let go of something troubling you? To grow the Spirit Man? Don’t feed the flesh man anymore. Let it out so that God can come in and heal today.
