“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
Matthew 18:20
Imagine hiking up a mountain for a weekend. You collect your gear, figure out permits, and now your ready for the next question: who are you going to go with? You begin strategizing from people who would be great company to others who, if you got lost, could help save your life. If you’re gonna spend a few days away with nature, might as well have the right people there with you, right? Likewise, one of the best things we can build as followers of Jesus is a great community – a group of people who can grow with us, encourage us, and we can encourage them. The types of people that, regardless of our season, will come to our aid and lighten the weight of life. Forming these types of friends aren’t easy, however. It involves time and vulnerability. It can be a struggle to open up to another person or to do something social when the default is to stay home. But if life is like scaling a mountainous landscape, then we need to have the right people with us. It could me a matter of life and death. Be encouraged: Step out. Be the first to initiate a new relationship this week. Text someone. Change your plans. The mountain top and the valleys are better when we have the right community around us.
